Drug & Alcohol Statistics and Information for Boone & Logan County

When Boone County's The Coal Valley News covered the story of the opening of the Prestera Center several years ago, Boone County native Jason Brackett, a therapist at the center in Danville commented that it was unfortunate that West Virginia ranks number one per capita in prescription narcotic use. "Boone County is no exception; most people who do come for substance abuse have a prescription drug abuse problem," Brackett says.  "Unfortunately, Boone County is one of a group of four counties that lead in residents ages 24 and older that consume alcohol and illegal drug use. That’s from a statewide average,” shares Prestera Center Director Dolin.

In fact, statistically, Dolin shares that those ages 25 to 54 are more likely to have a drug addiction of one kind or another in Boone County than any other demographic.

Logan County, WV  Substance Abuse Narrative, Prepared by Stephanie Birchfield SPF-SIG Project Director, will share troubling statics for the neighboring county and communities.
Governor Earl Ray Tomblin's Advisory Council on Substance Abuse reports over a staggering 152,000 West Virginians are in need of treatment.
